Treatment of epilepsy may lead to the development of schizophrenia

Treatment of epilepsy via anticonvulsants can lead to schizophrenia. This, in particular, signal animal research conducted by scientists. Science mechanism relationship epilepsy and schizophrenia is unknown, but some evidence suggests that the development of epilepsy in early childhood and its suppression by means of appropriate (and quite strong) medicines is fraught with the emergence of schizophrenia.

Studies have shown that some anticonvulsant drugs - such as phenobarbital - can cause the death of many nerve cells in many areas of the brain. At the same time this process is characteristic of schizophrenia. Thus, there are serious suspicions concerning not only the efficiency, but also widely used in security currently anticonvulsant.
