And now scientists have been able to approach the possibility of its own to restore the pancreas in diabetic patients (disease starts from the fact that the pancreas either does not produce insulin, or it is poorly absorbed). Professor Timothy Kieffer of the University of British Columbia argues that the stem cells can cure diabetes once and for all, writes The Daily Mail. In any case, experiments on mice learned much encouraging.
According to him, transplantation of cells can restore normal mechanism of insulin production in response to the rise or fall in sugar. Moreover, the effect of transplant and remained four months later: click on the belly eating sweets, but pancreatic copes with the processing of carbohydrates.
After some time, researchers tested what happened to the transplanted stem cells. It turned out that they are completely "assimilated" in the body of mice and had all the signs of normal pancreatic cells responsible for insulin production. However, in the animals that were used in the experiment, suppressed immune system, to avoid any rejection of transplanted cells.
Now scientists are developing an approach that will make it possible to protect the stem cells from immune attack, and therefore, the body of the complications associated with it.
