Shingles threatening stroke

Shingles threatening stroke Adult patients suffering from skin disease known as shingles, more than other people at risk of becoming the victim of a stroke. This is especially true for those patients in whom the disease affects the eye area.

The link between herpes and stroke was recorded in the past, but "the level of the threat and its risk has not yet been definitely established," says study author Dr. Jun-Horng Kang of Neurological Research Center at the University Hospital in Taipei (Taiwan). His research team will publish the results in the November issue of the journal Stroke.

"Our study is the first that has summed up the results on the basis of national statistics," - said Dr. Kang. He studied data on 7760 patients who received   Treatment of shingles   from 1997 to 2001. A year after receiving treatment 133 people (1, 7%) had a stroke. In the control group of 23 280 people who are not suffering from lichen, 306 people have suffered strokes (1, 3%).

Scientists have found that people with   Shingles   the risk of stroke in the first year treatment   31% higher. Moreover, the risk rises to 4, 3 times for that category of patients whose disease has affected the eye.

Key findings is that the strokes in these patients provokes vasculopathy (damage to blood vessels) caused by a virus shingles . Unfortunately, no effective drugs that reduce the risk of stroke in patients with lichen, does not exist. Doctors recommend them to regularly check the level of pressure.
