It proved that girls can not grow up without a father fatherless

However, Canadian researchers have so far made their conclusion solely on the basis of observations of rodents. It turned out that those pups that grew fatherless , Had subsequently impaired social skills and more aggressive behavior than pups raised in "complete" families. Scientists have identified a critical period of growth in mice, in which the absence of the father leads to serious behavioral changes.

"Although we have seen it for the mice, our data to a large extent also valid for people, - says study author Dr. Gabriella Gobbi. - We used the California mice, which differ almost as monogamy as the people in the education of offspring".

Gobbi and her colleagues compared the social behavior and anatomy of the brain of mice raised with both parents, and those who have grown among mothers. In the second case, the mice were observed violation of the mechanism of social interaction and increased aggressiveness. At the same time the worst lack of fathers experienced females, not males.

It was also found that the deprivation of paternal care females often have an increased sensitivity to narcotic drug amphetamine. Dr. Gobbi stresses that before scientists came to similar conclusions, watching the children, grown fatherless . "These children have an increased risk of behavioral disorders and, in particular, the abuse of various substances, - he says. - And our mice are excellent model of what happens in humans."
