Developed a rapid test to detect signs of autism in children    Scientists of the University of California San Diego developed test for early diagnosis of autism in children. Results of the study under the direction of Karen Pierce (Karen Pierce) been published in the American Journal «The Journal of Pediatrics».

The study involved more than 10,000 children under the age of one year. Unique technique built on questions asked by the parents of the baby. Parents are asked to complete a short questionnaire, which contained questions about the perception of words, gestures, sounds, visual communication and other forms of communication exhibited by children in this age.

During the study, 184 children were identified deviations from the norm. The children were sent to a local specialized medical center for examination, where over the next two years were under the supervision of doctors.

As a result of observation of the little patients specialists confirmed the diagnosis "Autism"   in 133 of the 184 children. Thus, the researchers evaluated the diagnostic value of the technique, Karen Pierce of 75%. Noteworthy is the fact that filling out the questionnaire parents spent less than five minutes.

Previously, scientists from Columbia University (NY) found dependence between the risk of autism in the younger child in a pair of siblings and the difference in their ages. Scientists have examined over 600 thousand pairs of children.

According to the study, the risk of autism in the younger child in a pair with a difference between the dates of birth of at least one year is three times higher than among pairs of brothers and sisters, born with a difference of more than three years. The reason for this, according to scientists, could serve as a lack of nutrients in the mother's body during pregnancy.
