A study conducted with the participation of more than one million Swedish men found that sons whose fathers had tried cognitive abilities lower than the sons of fathers with no criminal record. In their joint scientific work, scientists in Sweden and Finland came to the conclusion that this is due to genetic factors rather than the behavior of their fathers.

The results are given in the journal Psychological Association for Science.
"The results are important because cognitive ability is one of the most important predictors of psychological social and economic success and health !, - says lead author Antti Latvala at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and the University of Helsinki in Finland.
The study showed that parents with antisocial behavior (eg, break the rules, aggressive or violent behavior) children are at increased risk of committing crimes of mental illness and addiction, in addition, they often have a low academic performance. It was also found that people who commit antisocial acts are usually worse cognitive development compared with people without such inclinations.
The researchers used the database, which has the information about the level of cognitive abilities of young men called up for military service, and if they have a criminal record. After examining data from more than one million men, researchers found that young men whose fathers were ever judged to have lower cognitive ability than those young people whose fathers were never seen in the commission of antisocial acts.
The more serious crimes are committed by their fathers, the lower the level of cognitive abilities of their sons.
