Carbonated drinks are nearing old age

US scientists have proved that sodas shorten our lives. Their regular consumption is approximately the same negative effect on the body as a cigarette smoker.

Carbonated drinks are nearing old age Fizzy drinks

Scientists from the University of California San Francisco conducted a study which showed that the abuse sugar-carbonated drinks   causes the aging of cells. This has been proven at the deepest level.

The study was conducted on 5309 Americans aged 20 to 65 years. At the time of the experiment, none of them suffered from diabetes or cardiovascular disease. The subjects were interviewed about their diet. From the responses received, scientists have an idea of what drinks they drink and how much - how much water, juice, sweet or diet soda a day.

Also, all participants in the study took samples of DNA from blood cells to carry out the analysis of chromosomes at telomere length (end portions of chromosomes that protect DNA during cell division). This allows you to determine the age of the cells. Telomeres are considered as life counters - the shorter they are, the closer and older cell death.

By DNA testing failed to establish the relationship between the number of drunk soda and telomere length. The more people drink soft drinks, the shorter their telomeres appeared. Most avid soda to drink 600 ml daily, shortened telomeres were so, indicating the lost years - 4 and 6 years of life lost.

Biological age increased by 4, 6, only those who drank sugary drinks, diet sodas on telomeres is not affected. And those who drank juices, telomeres were even longer than the average for the group.

Telomere shortening can cause tissue damage, inflammation, insulin resistance. This means that sweet drinks   not only affects the appearance of excess weight and diabetes, but also for the development of more serious diseases and premature aging.

Now the researchers plan to conduct similar studies in children, because they are considered the biggest soda lovers, writes American Journal of Public Health. (READ MORE)
