Overweight threatens to rupture of the gallbladder

The greater the weight, the higher the risk that the gall bladder stones are formed. This law, particularly evident in women, doctors have found the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).

Earlier, doctors noticed that a high body mass index associated with an increased risk of developing gallstones. To reveal the mechanism of interaction of these two factors, the research team led by Dr. Anna Tibyarg-Hansen has implemented a major project in which was conducted thorough analysis of the health of nearly eighty thousand people.

Among the study participants, who were followed by doctors for over thirty years, cholelithiasis occurred in more than four thousand (4106). For most of them were characterized by such symptoms as older age, female gender and low level of physical activity. The researchers also noticed that the subjects consumed less alcohol and more likely to take hormones in substitution treatment compared with others.

However, doctors particularly interested in the way affects the appearance of gallstones excessive body weight. It turned out that this effect is manifested most directly: the risk of developing gallstones increases by 7% for each unit increase in body mass index.

Commenting on their findings, the researchers point out that there is no doubt provocative role in the development of obesity cholelithiasis.
